Arrow Head

Description

Our younger son Mike found this Arrow Head. Appropriately enough on the banks of Credit Island, a small Island along the Mississippi River. Which was used as a trading spot with both the French, English and American fur buyers, from the early 1700's until the war of 1812 by the Sauk and Fox Tribes who resided in our area at that time in history. Shortly before the war of 1812 trading had mostly been moved to what is now Arsenal Island by a man named Colonel George Davenport. Whether that was an actual role in the military or a self appointed one I'm not sure. But he did build a small fort on the Island where Native American tribes traded furs for blankets, knives, guns and powder etc.

Nice one Tony!
yeah it's so cool when you find things like this.I always wonder if the ones I found, were lost during a hunting trip, or part of a territory battle between tribes.
The oldest ones I have found are from about 4000 years ago.this one looks to be around 800 -1000 years old. you can date most by the way the end is shaped. this one doesn't have a notched back, so it's a lot older than you think.they started notching the backs of points only 600 years ago.also, this one is well worn down by the water and sand movement...not that crisp like a newer point, which would be from the time frame you mentioned in your pic description. A wonderful find...
